6 Tips for Better Trading: Are you forgetting the most vital one?

Corona Del Mar, CA

Howdy Friend,

I have 6 trading tips for you today...

I recently took a survey of our newest members to see how they did on their first trade.

The trade signal was up 9.3% if you got in at the open and sold on the open three trading days later.

So let's see their results and some tips for improvement:

FROM HITESH R*****:

Hey Dan I had a gain of  6.43% and I used Fidelity as my Broker.

FROM STANLEY W******:

My return so far is 10.4% and I'm still in it.  I made this decision because of the slow market conditions.  My broker is IBKR.

FROM KEVIN T******:

Schwab 9.5%

FROM GEORGE H*****:

Made 9% on the trade closed this morning. I’m trading in a Fidelity IRA.

FROM JERRY H*******:

For the last trade with __________  I made 8.76%. I use Fidelity and Charles Schwab as brokers.

FROM JIM Y****:
8.9%, an OK return for one week.

Here are my tips to improve those results (and help you too in the process):

  1.  Always trade the strategy's signals. Adding or subtracting rules to a perfectly built strategy can have dire consequences. In this case, the instrument fell about 8% the next day after the sell signal.

  2. Try using timed orders of no more than 200 shares near the open. For example, Interactive Brokers allows you to place an order such as "buy 200 shares market @ 9:30:12."

  3. If you have a larger account at IB, try splitting up your orders randomly in the first couple minutes of trading.

  4. You can also use their highly effective accumulation/distribution algorithm. For example, you could only buy when the last price is below a 15-second moving average.

  5. This didn't come up in the survey, but never never never use "free" brokers or the "free" option. "Free" means you're the product, and they sell their order flow to HFT firms like Citadel to skim from your orders.

  6. Be religious about placing your orders. Even a 30-minute delay can completely throw off a gem of a trade. Place those order the night before (or auto-trade them, which is something we'll have for Interactive Brokers shortly).
I hope that helps!

By the way, if 9.3% in three trading days sounds like a trade you'd love to make (and you have the discipline to do what I listed above), then you have one last shot at getting in...
