What’s quantum saying now?

Corona Del Mar, CA

Howdy Friend!

I am absolutely not a fan of quantum stocks. They have more red flags than a communist party parade.

– IONQ's CEO pumped up the stock, then dumped nearly all his shares.
– QUBT, with a $5 billion market cap is headquarter in a shared office next to loanDepot.
– The keep saying quantum is the next Nvidia which is materially false because quantum can never do general computing.

With that said, I've seen stocks do crazy things when they're advertised as the next 100x technology. JDS Uniphase comes to mind…it went to $1000 per share before cratering to $3.

It was marketed expensively to retail investors as the new railroad being built across America.(Fiber optics).

Did they think they'd just keep digging trenches and laying fiber forever?

Most investors have a lottery ticket mindset and fall for this kind of hype all the time.

I'd rather generate wealth at a steady rate then swing for the fences. In fact, that's exactly what Portfolio Boss stands for.

Now that doesn't mean I wouldn't trade quantum stocks…if they meet my criteria.

Here's an IONQ trading strategy backtest:

It shows steady returns, but the out of sample period is not statistically significant. There's just not enough history.

(Ironically, it went on a sell signal today).

The code for the strategy uses dark pool short sale data, and is very very simple.

But I'm going to set this strategy aside for several months just to see what happens.

I'd rather be conservative in my trading than risk money on a strategy that I have doubts about.

There was a time where I avoided opening my brokerage statements because the results were so bad.

Has that ever happened to you?

Now, members are sending their statements to me left and right.

See for yourself:

P.S. IONQ has a lot of short interest. There's even an ETF (IONZ) that's a -2x inverse of the stock. They use swaps with other banks in case you were wondering. Sometimes these obvious shorts can run further that you'd think…which is why I don't short 'em.

Portfolio Boss Strategy Performance:
Through 10/6/2025

Entry levelAll-weather Alpha is up 2.9% for October, and 39.7% for the year.

Mid-tier: Easy Ai 10 position Meta is up 1.0% this month, and 21.4% for the year.

High end (6-figure+ accounts): Outlier Method is up 1.0% this month, and 25.4% for the year. Historical tests show a 98.7% monthly win rate (without optimization) which wildly exceeded my expectations.

These are back tested numbers. Factor in about 0.1-0.2% per month for commission and slippage if you're trading with IB's BasketTrader (built into Portfolio Boss).

Portfolio Boss allows you to automatically take advantage of IB's money-saving algos like accumulation/distribution, opening auction participation, and REL orders so you trade more like a market maker instead of a market taker.

Trade smart,
