# Review Orders and Reconcile Broker Positions

**TRADING DASHBOARD & APM · 7 OF 8 · EXECUTION & RECONCILIATION**

**Check what filled, then check what the broker holds.**

The Orders panel explains execution. Show positions compares the broker’s current holdings with Portfolio Boss strategy assignments.

## Read the order date, state, and explanation

Select the account, then look at the **Orders** panel on the right. Read the date shown in its information line. Dan records after the market close and reviews that day’s activity; the panel should be interpreted using its displayed trading date, not just the time you open it.

The recording shows completed orders in gray. Read the State and Filled columns together. **Click to enlarge.**

| What you see | What it tells you |
| --- | --- |
| **Completed** | The order is marked completed. Check its filled shares and execution details for the actual quantity and price. |
| **Cancelled** | Read the explanation beneath the row. In the shown examples, the limit price was not reached; Filled is zero. |
| A symbol or additional information control | Hover where available for more information. Use the row’s explanation to investigate a specific order. |

A cancellation caused by an unreached limit is consistent with waiting for the strategy’s price. It is not automatically a broken connection. Equally, do not assume every cancellation has that cause: read the reason on the specific row. If Manual confirmation in TWS is selected, also check whether an order is waiting for your transmission there.

## Compare the quantities and execution fields

[![Right side of the order grid showing Calculated, Filled, Price, Fill price avg., Avail. cash, and Cash used columns.](https://portfolioboss.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/td-16-order-fill-columns.png)](https://portfolioboss.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/td-16-order-fill-columns.png)
Drag the order grid’s bottom scrollbar to see the columns farther right, including commission information. **Click to enlarge.**

| Field | Question it answers |
| --- | --- |
| Symbol and Action | Which instrument, and is this a buy or sell? |
| Limit | What price constraint is shown for the order? |
| Calculated shares | How many shares were calculated for the instruction? |
| Filled shares | How many shares actually filled? A calculated quantity is not an execution confirmation. |
| Price / Fill price avg. | What price reference is displayed, and what average execution price is recorded? Do not substitute one for the other. |
| Available cash / Cash used | What cash information is associated with the order? |
| Commission | What actual commission has been recorded for the execution? |

For an unexpected quantity, compare the filled amount, cash, and order explanation before looking only at the strategy’s intended target. The dashboard preserves trading records so you can inspect what happened rather than reconstruct the day from memory.

## Use Show positions to compare with the broker

1. Click **Show positions** at the upper right of the Account panel.
2. In **Broker Position Overview**, read the **Broker Shares** for each symbol.
3. Compare those shares with the **Strategy** assignments and their **Shares**.
4. Look for positions or shares listed as **unmanaged**, and investigate whether they are expected.

[![Broker Position Overview with Broker Shares, Strategy, assigned Shares, average cost, and total value; TVTX is split between 97 and 93 shares.](https://portfolioboss.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/td-17-broker-reconciliation.png)](https://portfolioboss.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/td-17-broker-reconciliation.png)
A symbol can be split across strategy records. Add the assignments before deciding that a row is a mismatch. **Click to enlarge.**

The window’s own description explains that it lists the account’s broker positions and which Portfolio Boss strategies they belong to. Positions or shares not linked to a strategy are listed as unmanaged. This makes it useful for spotting holdings that the intended Portfolio Boss strategy is not managing.

**A concrete example from the recording**

TVTX shows **190 Broker Shares**, with strategy share rows of **97** and **93**. Those assignments add to 190. Two rows for the same symbol are not by themselves an error; compare their combined quantity with the broker total.

Use the square maximize control if you need more room. The X at the top right closes this overview window; it does not remove a trading strategy.

## Investigate an unexpected holding or mismatch

1. **Confirm the account.** Make sure you are comparing the same broker account and paper/live session.
2. **Read the assignments.** Check all strategy rows for the symbol, including those inside a meta-strategy.
3. **Review recent orders.** Look for the relevant fills, cancellations, and quantities, then compare with the broker’s own position record.
4. **Distinguish intentional outside holdings from unexpected ones.** An unmanaged position may be deliberate; it needs an explanation, not an automatic assumption that it should be sold.
5. **Resolve uncertainty before further changes.** If the records do not make sense, retain the relevant details and contact Portfolio Boss support at [support@portfolioboss.com](mailto:support@portfolioboss.com). Hide account identifiers in screenshots you share outside a secure support channel.
